Obituary:
Elizabeth “Betty” Smith died Wednesday August 22 at Morristown Medical Center. Born in Newark, N.J., she was the eldest child of the late Joseph and Jean Kannaley (nee Nosti). Elizabeth is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Joseph of sixty-five years; her daughters Patricia of Landing and Margaret Martin and her husband, Randy, of Byram. She is also survived by her sister Erma Salvatore, of Deltona, Florida. She is pre-deceased by her daughter, Maureen Elizabeth and her two brothers, Joseph and Edward Kannaley. She is survived by her grandchildren: John LoSapio of Morris Township and his wife, Cherray; Michael LoSapio of Wilmington, DE and his wife Ashley; Tina Schwartz of Whippany and her husband Brad; Lyle Martin of Byram; Ashley Martin of Byram and her great-granddaughter - Lillian LoSapio of Lees Summit, MO. In her early years, Elizabeth worked as an Operator and Supervisor in the Telephone Company; was Treasurer of St. Michael's PTA in Netcong and member of the Rosary Society. Being an avid reader, she, along with Angela Wade and the late Helen Schomp, were instrumental in creating the Library for St. Michael's School. Later she served as President of the Over 50 Club at St. Claire's Parish, Deltona, FL, where she resided for 12 years. Returning to New Jersey eight years ago, she attended Our Lady of The Lake Parish, Mt. Arlington. Elizabeth was a woman of strong faith and quick to help anyone in need, praying the Rosary daily for all of her relatives and friends.
